We celebrated Veteran's Day at 11:11am on 11/11/11 at the Geographic South Pole.  It was nice.

  1. In memory of veteran's day! 11.11am on 11.11.11 what an ironic number, surprise we didn’t have a catastrophic failure or some sort of a out-burst-Y2K? maybe a astroid hitting the earth, rise of the apes, battle of houston :P. I was betting on pick3, power-ball and Texas lotto that day! Too bad I didn’t win :( I would of quit ExpressJet and travel the world, sorry rick lol!!.....but with all respect to all who served this country i am very thankful! It look like a very peaceful scene.Excellent photo's -marlon.

  2. No problem Marlon...I would do the same if I hit the lottery. The problem is I never play.

So Kristina how many people are down there with you? Also what is the longest amount of time people go down there for? Do people stay down there for multiple periods?

  3. Hey Rick- I'm down at the pole with about 200 people. Everyone is either a scientist, or a workerbee to support the station, which in turn supports science. About 70% are return workers who come summer after summer after summer. Many have wintered over (spent about a year here). It seems very few come down for just one season. Keep the questions coming!!! Good to hear from you Rick!
